Announcement:
Chris and I have been talking about changing the name of our class. The primary reason is that "Western Martial Arts" doesn't say much to the average reader or listener. It just brings on a greater amount of questions. Furthermore, although we have a strong base in the ancient and western martial arts, it doesn't really capture the totality of our class. Western Martial Arts is a large piece (larger than some realize, I think) but there is really a lot more going on. We will probably move the blog to a new URL, and probably change the email address. The original name that we were going to use was already taken (by a "Green" movement group if you can imagine), so we are currently brainstorming new ideas. If you have any suggestions, email them to me!
Street Fight:
While reading my favorite news website (the Smoking Gun), I came across a very interesting fight video. Although not one person in the video seems to share any personal traits of our class goers, the video is really good. It shows a good time frame and some of the Shit-Head attack styles that we talk about frequently.
1. Watch how many times the "Shit-Head #1 talks to victim, Shit head #2 throws a sneak punch".
2. Watch for any "Over the shoulder punch from the rear of a victim" you see.
3. Watch for Swarm tactics. People come out of nowhere to get their licks in.
4. Watch for violations of personal space to incite violence.
5. Watch for the victims avenues of retreat that they use or neglect.
6. Watch for overhand rights, head striking, and ragging.
7. Is there any level changing going on here?
8. Are the victims lucky that they are not completely incapacitated or dead?
