September 12, 2010 - Class Supplement

Here's the deal with the blog: I wasn't getting any traffic, so I stopped posting. I talked with Chris and we came to a "Chicken Vs. Egg" argument about which happened first. No posting, or no traffic.

So I'm going to give this thing a bit more attention. I'm going to focus more on one specific lesson per week (or whenever it comes to mind) so that I repeat information less. Also, I would LOVE IT if Chris or our other students posted on here with regards to comments, tips, or suggestions. Anything would help.

Last week we continued our "in close" rotation focusing mostly on stand up grappling.

Chris and I talked about a drill that we used to do a lot with each other. I can't stress the value of this drill even though it looks rather silly. This drill is good to practice to get used to ugly body contact and hitting with your body. Being able to resist such impact is also crucial to anyone who wants to grapple.

Chris and I would add more body impact into the drill, but it's a good thing to practice.

After class Mark, Chris, and I worked a bit with getting up from a take down while your attacker is hitting you. If you missed this, it turned out to be one of the best drills we ever did. Mark learned the value of not trying to submissions on your opponent, but getting the hell out. I highly suggest you ask Chris or I to work this drill again after class sometime.

Thats all for now. I look forward to your comments, tips, or suggestions.
